The St Margarets Traders Association would like to thank everyone who helped with or attended this year's Christmas Fair. Sincerely, thank you for helping it be such a perfect day!
What a fantastic day it turned out to be! The day started off with such terrible weather but as set up began the rain stopped and the dark clouds disappeared leaving bright blue skies.
By 11am crowds of people had arrived and the event progressed successfully with The Mayor and Santa both arriving at 12 noon.
The Mayor escorted Santa to his grotto with the help of Santa's elf, Dobbin the pantomime horse, Spotty the dog and the stilt-walking Ugly Sisters!
The Mayor toured the stalls and chatted with members of the community, she seemed particularly interested in the yellowwedge cheese shop and was tempted by their cheese fondue. Before her departure the Mayor judged the children's poster competition, winners will be displayed on the competition page (here) and in Churchills Lettings windows in Crown Road - Thank you to Neil and his team for sponsoring this competition.
The crowds were entertained by a variety of local bands and artists including The Groove Academy. A special thank you to Keith and Bill, our guardians of sound.
The afternoon's entertainment began with The St Margarets Christmas Show. The show started with the Ugly Sisters entertaining the audience with tales of their trip to St Margarets to search for husbands. Before long, local actors Leslie Grantham, Jemma Churchill and Paul Bown were joined on stage by TV's Lynn Faulds Wood.
The four celebrities then narrated festive verses written by Elizabeth Herry. Children from the Marble Hill Dance Studio performed to the delight of the crowds; the children were choreographed by Abigail Cova of the dance studio. During the children's dance to Away in a Manger, snow clouds gathered above and a dusting of seasonal snow fell on St Margarets - Michael Fish failed to predict that one!!!
The bands were back on stage to entertain before handing the stage over to Jez Barnes and his team from St Stephen's Church. Jez led an open-air church service that included carols and also included entertainment from local comedian Milton Jones.
As the event drew to a close, conversation turned to St Margarets being such a special place to so many people. But, why is it special to you? Launched at the fair, click here for the details on how you could win a Canon camera package worth over £700.
There are so many people to thank and acknowledge for making this year's St Margarets Christmas Fair so special. It was undoubtedly our best and biggest yet! Over the coming days we will look to attempting this and publishing selected photos, video clips and messages from the special day. Be sure to keep revisiting the site for updates on the Christmas competitions, details on local special Christmas events, and for Santa's updates (of course!).
