Local Scientist turned cake designer is shortlisted for an award!

Here is Nicola’s amazing story as told by Richmond and Twickenham Times reporter Tom Ambrose on the R&T website

“A scientist turned wedding cake designer has been shortlisted for a national prize.

Nicola Gill, 32, opened Honey and Lace in St Margarets in January and she has been nominated for wedding cake designer of the hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards.

Trained as a scientist, Ms Gill worked as a researcher at Copenhagen University before trying to cut it in the cake trade.

She said: “After my own wedding I signed up to a basic cake decorating course and found out that I was more creative than I thought.

“Honey and Lace was born in January 2014 and what a busy year it has been.

“I love what I do and the design challenges that my brides give me.”

She still works as a scientist and is a technician at Orleans Park School, where she prepares lessons for A-level chemistry, physics and biology.

She added: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be a finalist in the hitched.co.uk Breakthrough Awards as there is a lot of talent out there.”
